Why good content matters for 2013

If you thought that simply posting an update on your social media accounts weekly was enough, you would be wrong. If you thought that the odd sales-related tweet or new-product Facebook update was enough, well, you would also be wrong.

2013 is all about content. But not just any old content. Good content. Google wants to know that you care. Content is no longer King. It is more than that. It is King, Queen, King Kong, you name it, content is ruling the digital empire.

But it is vital that you have content in the right context. It is time to make sure that you are putting good, honest, helpful and informative content out there. Your social media is the perfect platform. So here are some top tips:

Hashtag

Get hastagging. But don’t overdo it. Take the time to see what is trending, what is being talked about and what could be trending tomorrow. Provide valuable tweets that have no more than two hastags in them. Make them relevant to the topics of the day. They don’t have to be related to your business, but they do need to be points that will get people talking.

Stories

Share your stories. Share your customers stories. Ask them for their opinions, their views and their ideas. Utilise this to your advantage. Even bad customer feedback is good. As Bill Gates once said, “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.”

Liking doesn’t always mean loving

Having 50,000 likes doesn’t actually mean an awful lot. But having 500 likes with some buzz, engagement and communication with your customers does. Understanding your
audience is key. Speak to them, communicate with them and find out what they want to hear. It is time to create your brand ambassadors. Your social media content will help to create this.

Overall make sure you post daily, but keep it varied. Be true, be honest and you will not only be liked, but loved.
