April 18, 2012 8:30 am

When it comes to writing a blog it can be hard to think of new, innovative ideas. If you have chosen social media as a tool for your business, which you should, then a blog is key to that. Chances are, if you have been writing a business blog for a while you have often hit a brick wall. It can be difficult to think of new ideas, fresh information and things that will really get your customers talking. Remember your blog shouldn’t just be a sales tool, it should offer your readers something more.

Well, there is a way to get new inspiration every day. You may already be using Twitter to let your clients know what you are up to, but you can use it to get blog inspiration too. But how? Well here are a few tips on making the most of Twitter for your blog:

Be relevant

Your blog should always aim to be relevant. Twitter is a great place to find out what is current. Remember, Twitter is in real time. Every second someone tweets or uploads information. In fact, Twitter can sometimes beat the news. It has been known that key events have been shared on Twitter before they have hit the headlines.

#Hashtags

The easiest way to find out what people are really talking about is to check the Twitter hashtags. You can see this on the left-hand side of your Twitter page. You can click on these to find out what people are saying regarding certain events and news stories.

News worthy

As you look at your news feed keep an eye out for articles that fit in with what you want to share with your customers. It is a good idea to follow the main tabloids. That way you will always be aware of the latest headlines, even if you don’t watch the news 24/7.

Read the comments

Make sure you read the comments. Social media is a great tool for many reasons. But being able to see what your customers actually think about certain topics really adds another dimension. Look at what your followers are saying, what are they talking about and what do they want to know?
