How social are you?

In the world of social media it is time to ask yourself this, ‘How social are you?’.

When you look at your social media, are you doing yourself justice? Are you ‘out there’ enough? Are you shy and retiring? Or are you big, bold and brash? And, in all of this, what is the right way to be?

Well, as you have probably already worked out, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to social media. There are some out there who are doing a great job. And they are not always the ones with the most amount of likes and the biggest group of followers.

Being the right level of social on a social media site sounds easy. But it is something that many get so, so wrong.

Here are a few things to consider:

Frequency

There is a fine line between often, not often enough and then over-doing it. We don’t need to know what you had for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but at the same time we need to hear from you regularly. Once a day will suffice.

Tone

Another fine line. Between being over-familiar and aloof. There is no need to be too personal, but you can ask how we are, if we saw ‘so-and-so’ on the TV the night before and if we would like to share our thoughts on a particular topic. Adding a friendly tone of voice will make for more enticing social media. Picture yourself at a networking event or a drinks party. How would you speak and interact with those around you? There, now you have it.

Content

If you are posting regularly then make sure your content is varied. We don’t need 20 weekly updates on all the offers you have. Simply point us in the direction of your website, or your offers page. If you have a blog (which you should) then make sure you upload useful content that we will want to share. You should also look at trending topics. By making the most of your hashtags you will invite more followers to join you.

If this has inspired you to be more social then remember, don’t be afraid. Get out there, get tweeting, get liking and get sharing.
