What the presidential campaigns taught us when it comes to social media

November 9, 2012 3:14 pm

Following on from James’ blog on ‘Why your digital marketing strategy should be as strong as the presidential campaigns’ it would seem that there really is a lot to learn. James highlighted how the recent US election campaigns can show us that we should always take a varied approach, utilise our case studies and really look the part. From a social media point of view the campaigns also taught us a few good lessons in terms of social engagement. In this digital age, it seemed the first choice for many celebrities and high-status Americans was to ‘tweet’ their political stance. Barack Obama has had the likes of Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Katy Perry and a whole host of household names campaigning and championing him along the way. One of their preferred ways of support was to tweet their allegiance and to encourage voters to do their bit. Influence This brings…

Why your digital marketing strategy should be as strong as the presidential campaigns…

November 6, 2012 10:37 am

Today sees arguably the most important decision for the American, if not the worlds, economy this year – the presidential election. In past elections we have seen some fantastic techniques used towards the marketing of parties campaigns, and the Barack Obama / Mitt Romney battle this year is no exception. It may sound bizarre initially, but on observing these events closely, we can open up a world of ideas for your digital campaign. From the initial attention grabbing speeches and heated debates, to the conversion of receiving a vote, the two campaigns work in a parallel manner. See below a few things we can take away from both parties, in their approach to outwitting their rival and obtaining the final conversions! Proven Results I heard Mitt Romney mention recently his “proven results” within a speech to his audience. It’s true, as clients or voters, we all want to know that…

Why Google chose to disavow

10:34 am

At the start of October Google brought in a new tool. Another new tool that was to tackle the issue of questionable links. This new tool was called ‘disavow’. The tool allows businesses to ‘disavow’ links to their site. If unnatural links have been pointed to your site then this tool is ideal. For many businesses, links such as these can be a real problem. Many sites have noticed changes in their rankings since the Google Penguin update and loss of rankings has not been uncommon. Small and localised businesses can be significantly damaged by SEO changes and bad linking so any tool that can help to ‘clean this up’ is essential. Safer SEO Prior to the disavow tool, if you had bad links pointing to your website you had to manually clean them up. This would involve either contacting your SEO team or attempting to locate the source of…

Video – what to expect from our services

October 30, 2012 10:46 am

Recently, I had the opportunity to join Simon, head of film here at mmadigital, for a client video shoot at an awards event in Manchester. Having experienced the day, and Simon’s way of working, I thought it would be a perfect idea to share with you my experiences (as a novice in videography) and what to expect from our service on the day. The Experience – from an onlookers perspective! Upon arrival, Simon and myself made our introductions to the client and had an in depth chat about what needed capturing during the event, what they wished to avoid and important shots that would portray the correct atmosphere & feel to the event. With this in mind, Simon set up his equipment and made his way around the location to identify prime shots. I must admit, after the first half an hour of the event, when the room began to…

A blog post with a difference

October 28, 2012 12:03 pm

As social media manager here at mmadigital I always check out a company’s blog. I think that you can tell a lot about a business by their blog post and here is why. Out of date A blog should be regularly updated with your businesses latest news, ideas, advice and top tips. A blog that is rarely updated is a big ‘no-no’. But a blog that is updated on a regular basis, around once a week, is a sign that they have a lot to say, want to engage with their audience and know the right ways to boost their SEO. Too short If a blog is too short then this can also be off-putting, for the search engines and the audience. A blog should be about 250 words or more. Any less and Google may see it as spam. But be careful not to over-do it. It is about…

Keeping your clients up-to-date.

October 22, 2012 9:21 am

I thought over the next few weeks, it would be a great idea to start documenting some fundamental but simple steps to ensuring you get the most out of your brand new CMS website. Today I give a swift tutorial on how to create posts. Creating posts is an important task which needs to be carried out with a consistently, high quality and engaging approach. Customers are drawn to companies who keep their sites well up-to-date, with rich and interesting information, so news, tips and advice in your area of expertise, can prove valuable to a potential client. An easy way to start doing this is through your WordPress news-feed. Once your website is completed, your website designer will provide you with admin details for your site. You will then be trained on how to use each element of the admin panel. As you can see in the image above,…

What does your website say about you?

October 10, 2012 12:23 pm

What does your website say about you? The way you dress, the music you listen to, the books you read and the company you keep, all tell a lot about you. They may highlight your adventurous side, the things you enjoy doing in your spare time or the ambitions you have. When it comes to your business, your brand and your services, it is your website that speaks volumes. Your website is sort of like the clothing that you dress your business in. Your branding, your logo, the colours you pick, the font you use and the imagery you portray. Not to mention the user experience. So why is it that so many businesses leave their website to last? And when they do they forget to invest time, money and effort into it? An article on the econsultancy website highlighted 17 luxury brands that have bad websites. The brands range…
