5 things you should know about email marketing

Unlike the direct mail that comes through our door, email marketing has a more instant, direct, yet subtle approach. Email marketing is efficient, creative and also doesn’t cost a fortune.
If you want to make sure that your email marketing is creating the right interest then here are five things you should know.
1. Be personal
What we mean by this is, if you know your customers name then use it. Think of how you feel when you receive a personal letter. Your email can be created to look personal too. This will show your reader that you have taken the time and you are not there to simply bombard them with information.
2. A creative hook
If your email doesn’t have a good hook then you could lose your audience instantly, before they have even opened the email. Give them something that will make them want to read on. A fact, an offer or something that they simply can’t refuse.
3. Call to action
Make sure that you include a call to action. Think about what you want your reader to do once they have read your email. But keep it simple, you don’t want to leave them confused.
4. Be creative
The email space is your opportunity to be creative. Make sure that you entice them with not just words but images too. Design is really important and don’t forget to hyperlink too!
5. Follow up
Make sure you follow your email up. Whether it be with another email or a sales call. There are many software programs that monitor who has opened your email and provide you with statistics. This will help you to measure your emails results.
So if you are planning to create a campaign why not consider email marketing? It is direct, cost effective and easy to monitor. Email marketing should be a core part of your marketing plan for 2012.
